Directors Register

Information for Associations

The NSWFHA recognises how difficult it is for housing associations to recruit board members with appropriate skills.

Recruiting skilled board members is an ongoing challenge for housing associations across the state.

NSWFHA has established a Directors Register to assist housing associations with their board recruitment processes. The Directors Register has been set up to expand the pool of potential board members available for board recruitment.

Interested individuals are invited to join the register. We keep a record of their skills, background and preferred location for a new directorship on the register. When you are recruiting you can contact the Federation and request a search of the Register. We will match your requirements with any suitable potential directors on the Register and send you the details.

Information for Applicants

The NSW Federation of Housing Associations is the peak body and resourcing agency supporting community based housing associations in New South Wales.

The Directors Register was created by the NSW Federation of Housing Associations to support housing associations looking for new board members, and to assist individuals looking to make a stronger connection with their community by joining a board.

What is a housing association, and what do they do?

Housing associations provide accommodation to low and moderate income earners at affordable rents. They help people to improve their housing situations by providing quality, low cost and affordable housing. They are responsive to local needs, and encourage tenant participation.

There are 43 housing associations across metro and regional New South Wales - from small organisations with less than 30 properties to large associations with more than 1000 properties.

Driven by its commitment to social justice, the community housing sector is dynamic and growing rapidly.

Housing associations’ boards contain the very best of local expertise in housing and community business management, and strive to maintain a high level of professionalism and standard of conduct.

Why should I join a housing association’s board?

There are many benefits to being on a housing association’s board. With your dedication to making a difference, you will have the satisfaction of giving something back to your community. You will have a unique opportunity to develop a wide range of skills and gain valuable experience, while increasing your knowledge of the community housing sector. You will work alongside other dedicated professionals, and bring value to the board with your own skills and experience.
