Workforce planning - recommended external resources

The following tools are recommended to assist housing associations to plan for their future workforce needs:

NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet Workforce Planning: a guide

Step by step guide to planning for future workforce needs in the public sector.  The guide covers HR planning, ideas on strategies for recruitment training, leadership development, succession planning and mentoring.  It also provides a framework for a structured, evidence based approach to HR planning and workforce development.  The guide also describes the need to link HR planning and workforce development into strategic planning processes.  See Appendix A for an integrated strategic HR planning framework.

NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet / Mercer College Workforce Planning - a facilitator's guide

This is a thorough and practical guide to each stage of workforce planning, developed by Mercer College for NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet.  It includes a knowledge pack with tools and information on environmental scanning, supply forecasting, demand forecasting, gap analysis, developing a workforce plan and implementation / evaluation

Victorian Government Department of Planning and Community Development  Gap analysis tool

A tool to provide a quick check for community sector organisations to assess their recruitment selection processes against those defined as best practice. Human resources practitioners can use this tool to identify areas where they can improve their implementation of best practice

NSW Public Sector Capability Framework

This is a website supporting the NSW Public Sector Capability Framework. The Capability Framework is the public sector-wide tool for describing the knowledge, skills and experience of NSW Government employees. This website provides a suite of resources and guides to support NSW Government agencies to apply the Capability Framework.  It is a valuable tool to assist with job design and position descriptions and in setting the right selection criteria.
